Today we made the trip to Garrett Harrison stadium for our annual Punt, Pass, and Kick competition that is hosted by the NFL. Students from Phenix City Elementary, Sherwood Elementary, Ridgecrest Elementary, Meadowlane Elementary, and Lakewood Elementary were there to participate. They competed in two different divisions (boys and girls), and competed by age.
This was the local competition, and in October there will be a sectional competition for the winners from today. There were two winners each from Lakewood, Sherwood, Ridgecrest, and one winner from Phenix City Elementary. If they go on to win at the sectional competition, they will have the chance to compete in the Georgia Dome before an Atlanta Falcons home game.

We were lucky to avoid a lot of rain from hurricane Isaac this past week. Because of that, we were able to work on the Punt, Pass, & Kick competition. This is a nation-wide competition that the NFL hosts. On September 20, all of the elementary schools in Phenix City will bring their best students to Garrett-Harrison stadium to compete on the local level. If they win, they will move on to the sectional competition. So this past week, all of the students in 2nd - 5th grade practiced their punts, passes, and kicks. Next week we will determine who will be going to Garrett-Harrison stadium on September 20 to represent Phenix City Elementary School.

The first week of P.E. classes went well. Kindergarten, first, and second grades worked on our rules and procedures. Plus they got to play a few games while learning about having a good home space. Third, fourth, and fifth grades reviewed our rules and procedures, then had a guest speaker who talked about Crossfit.
The rest of the week was spent playing games that involved different types of fitness levels while also finding our pulse and determining our heart rate.

Welcome to Phenix City Elementary physical education!
Thank you for visiting the PCES PE blog! We have been preparing for almost two weeks for the students to come back, and we are very excited about the upcoming school year. One of the first things we will be working on is NFL's Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. Be looking for more information from your child about how the competition works.
